This year March 12 saw the election for the “Leader of the Year”, where the company director prof. dr. Saulius Grigiškis has also participated. During the ceremony, the winners were congratulated by the President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė.

“Ruptela” director Andrius Rupšys became the leader of the year. This fast growing telecommunication company creates and installs innovative transport surveillance systems. The company works in 115 countries in Europe, Africa, Asia and South America; it exports 75 % of its production.

This year we are proud to be officially confirmed our patent applications. UAB,, Biocentras“ successfully developed even 4-rd of new technology and patented them:

  1. Extraction of enzyme complexes from Steptomyces gougerotii 101, creation of multienzyme biopreparations and their application. The patent Nr. 6177.
  2. Therapeutical beta-glucan composition, modulating human immune system and the initiating the breakdown of cancerous cell. The patent Nr. 6145.
  3. Complex method for cleaning environment from oil pollutants. The patent Nr. 6162.
  4. Seed treatment of cerals and potatoes. The patent Nr. 6142.

JSC “Biocentras” has been chosen to represent Lithuania in EUROPEAN BUSINESS AWARDS 2015 – 2016

“European Business Awards” with a support of RSM (www.businessawardseurope.com) proclaimed that JSC “Biocentras” has been chosen to represent Lithuania in a prestigious 2015 – 2016 award program.

JSC “Biocentras” defeated strong opponents and was chosen as one of the 16 national representatives; it will now compete for a prestigious Ruban d’Honneur title in the next round of the competition. The winners of the final round will be revealed on the 9th of February, 2016.

“European Business Awards” competition takes place since 2007. The main goal of this competition is to encourage the expansion of stronger and more successful business community in Europe. This competition also seeks to:

  • Draw the attention towards the best companies and their activities;
  • Create the conditions for companies of various sizes and industrial fields to compare themselves with others and to learn from the best;

The most competitive companies in Europe are chosen during the competition based on their ability to demonstrate three main principles: commercial success in the respective field or sector, innovativeness and business ethics. 2014 saw the participation of more than 24 000 organisations from more than 33 nations. The total turnover of the participants exceeded 1 trillion euros, and the total number of employees exceeded 2700.

The fifth annual contest “Business and Science Partnership 2015” has been won by a scientific and industrial company “Biocentras” together with the Innovative Medicine Centre.

The award to the business and science tandem was granted for a developed food supplement with immunostimulating properties.

The award was presented by the Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius and the minister of economy Evaldas Gustas to the director of “Biocentras” Sauliui Grigiškiui and the scientist of Innovative Medicine Centre Mykolas Mauricas during the “Innovation Drift” forum.

Mister Grigiškis was happy that “Biocentras” received the first award in Lithuania.

“It’s our first award received in Lithuania,” said Mr. Grigiškis. “Such evaluation is very high.”

Technology, for which “Biocentras” received the award, stimulates human immune system and initiates the destructive processes of cancerous cells. For now this preparation has been registered as a food supplement, however data and information is being gathered for its registration as a medical preparation.

International patent announced

On the 22nd of October, 2015, JSC “Biocentras” announced an international patent “THERAPEUTICAL β-GLUCAN COMPOSITION, MODULATING HUMAN IMMUNE SYSTEM AND INITIATING THE BREAKDOWN OF CANCEROUS CELLS”, publication No. WO/2015/159134 (Inventors: Saulius Grigiškis, Artur Javmen, Mykolas Mauricas, Vilma Čipinytė, Darius Kačanauskas, Fortūnatas Grygas, Julius Vaitoška).

“Innovative Energy Solutions for Military Applications” (IESMA 2014)

This year November 12-13th days saw JSC “Biocentras” representatives participating in an international exhibition “Innovative Energy Solutions for Military Applications” (IESMA 2014), which was organised by NATO and DELTA. The main goal of this exhibition was to create an opportunity for the spread of information, best practice and technological innovation, also encouraging the efficacy of energy consumption in the military. Representatives from across Europe participated in IESMA 2014.

JSC “Biocentras” representatives introduced the cosmetic product kit ARMY-BIOSOL, developed and constantly improved by the company’s scientists. The purpose of this kit is the first aid and treatment of skin injuries (frostbites, sun and flame burns, cuts).

Company representatives received not a small measure of interest during the exhibition. Many exhibition participants joked that such a product would be useful not only in a workplace, but also at home, as a first aid kit. Additionally, the exhibition participants didn’t spare the suggestions how the ARMY-BIOSOL kit could be improved.

JSC “Biocentras” was nominated as top five finalist for EuropaBio’s Most Innovative Biotech SME Award 2011

EuropaBio has announced the top five finalists for its 2011 Most Innovative EU Biotech SME Award of almoust 30 candidates. The finalists, together with Biocentras included: AiCuris GmbH & Co. KG (Germany), a company focused on developing new medicines that fight against infectious diseases with a high impact on society, such as HIV, Human Cytomegalovirus, Herpes, Hepatitis and resistant bacterial infections in hospitals; Cardio3 Biosciences (Belgium), working on the discovery, development and commercialisation of regenerative and protective therapies for heart diseases; to-BBB (The Netherlands), who have discovered a new technology to enhance drug delivery across the bloodbrain barrier to treat medical conditions such as brain cancer, Alzheimer’s disease and multiple sclerosis; and Prosensa (The Netherlands), an SME whose technology is at the forefront of developing a treatment for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) – a lethal childhood rare disease, and which was announced the winner of the first place.

JSC “Biocentras” Marketing Manager Monika Kavaliauske has participated as a speaker in the 3rd European Innovation Summit conference titled “Europe’s Future Nobel Prize Winners” which took place in the European Parliament in Brussels on 11 October 2011. She presented a speech about “The challenges on interdisciplinary sciences in case of eco-innovations”.
This year’s Summit was organized for the third time in partnership with the EU Presidency, the European Commission and the European Parliament. With more than 100 speakers and 700 participants, the Summit conferences provided a unique opportunity to present and debate the key topics along the innovation value chain from education to internationalization of companies.

On the 11th – 13th of October the novelties of biotech sector were introduced in one of the biggest international exhibitions “Biotechnica 2011” in Hanover, Germany.

During the exhibition also various seminars about life sciences and biotechnology took place. With the initiative of „Versli Lietuva“ for the first time in the joint exhibition space 3 companies and 4 scientific institutions were represented: JSC „Biotechpharma“, JSC „Workshop of Photonics“, JSC „Biocentras“, Kaunas Technology University Center of Food science, technologies and competences, Vilnius University fFculty of Life sciences, Institute of Biochemistry and Institute of Biotechnology.
